A practical introduction to clear technical writing. The workshop begins with a focus on the essentials of clear technical writing: defining audience, context, and purpose. Then we discuss the habits that make technical writing effective: foregrounding key results, using consistent structure, tightening sentences, avoiding ambiguity, and eliminating filler. Participants learn how to define the purpose of a document up front, structure information so readers don’t have to guess, and avoid vague wording and buried conclusions. Finally, participants will leave with four quick checks they can use to make any document clearer.
