Delta Remediation has been leading a major environmental remediation initiative at the Churchill Marine tank farm in Churchill, Manitoba, since 2022. The project targets long-standing soil and groundwater contamination caused by more than 80 years of fuel storage and distribution activities at this critical northern facility. Approximately 36,000 cubic meters of contaminated soil and an equivalent volume of groundwater have been addressed using advanced bioremediation strategies specifically adapted to Arctic conditions, including bioaugmentation, bioreactors, in-situ soil mixing, direct injection, and permeable treatment trenches. These integrated methods have achieved significant results, most notably a 97% reduction in F2 hydrocarbon concentrations—from 28 ppm to 0.8 ppm—demonstrating both the effectiveness of the approach and its potential for broader application in Canada’s northern regions.
