Join us on Wednesday, January 14 at 10:00 AM PT for our first GeoEnviroPro Talk of 2026, From Source to Fate and Transport: A Forensic Chemistry Perspective, with Dr. Phil Richards.
Why does identifying the source of detected COCs matter? What do we really mean by “background”?
This talk explores these questions through both a regulatory and forensic chemistry lens, with a focus on hydrocarbons. Dr. Richards will examine how source characterization informs our understanding of natural conditions, what detected contaminants actually represent, and how these insights influence fate and transport interpretations—and ultimately, decision-making.
Dr. Richards is a chartered senior forensic chemist with over 20 years of experience as a professional chemist, and has trained and worked as an environmental forensic chemist, an industrial process chemist and a research chemist. He is qualified as an expert as an analytical chemist at the Court of the Kings Bench in Alberta and specializes in chemical data interpretation.
