GeoPro Talks: High Resolution Site Characterization Using Electrical Hydrogeology

April 1, 2026
Time: 10 AM PT
Location: Online
Instructor(s): Samantha Frandsen

Description

When it comes to drilling and remediation, guesswork is the enemy. It wastes money, creates rework, and leads to ongoing frustration for project teams. A good Conceptual Site Model (CSM) is critical to a project’s success and environmental professionals need clarity, not uncertainty, when developing their CSM.

This presentation introduces Electrical Hydrogeology, a high‑resolution subsurface characterization method that integrates geophysics and hydrogeologic principles to reduce uncertainty in understanding complex site conditions. We will outline the fundamentals of Electrical Hydrogeology, describe how the method resolves key subsurface properties, and present application examples across diverse environments—including shallow and deep settings, alluvial systems, fractured bedrock, and sites impacted by LNAPL and DNAPL. Attendees will gain a practical evaluation framework for determining when Electrical Hydrogeology can strengthen your CSM, improve drilling efficiency, and support more defensible remediation decisions.

About Instructor(s)

Samantha Frandsen
MSc, PGP

Samantha Frandsen is a Hydrogeophysicist and Project Manager at Aestus, LLC, with over 7 years of experience in subsurface characterization and geophysical data acquisition, integration, and interpretation. Her experience includes work on complex sites across the U.S. mapping fracture networks and identifying mechanisms controlling contaminant migration to produce actionable 3D visual models that are used by project stakeholders to make informed decisions and mitigate risk.
