Mackenzie Smith, B.Sc., BIT
Mackenzie is a Biologist in Training at Active Earth, with almost 2 years of consulting experience. Previously, Mackenzie presented at the BCEIA BEST Conference in Whistler, BC to speak on the challenges, opportunities, myths and realities of a multi-generational workplace. Having been a part of and observing many successful mentorship relationships, Mackenzie is keen to facilitate more mentorship opportunities and knowledge transfer between senior and emerging professionals in the environmental industry.
Emma Zapf-Gilje, M.Sc., P.Ag.
Emma is a Professional Agrologist in BC with 6 years of consulting experience in contaminated sites and risk assessment. Her career so far has been shaped by mentorship and advice she has received by individuals from various organizations, backgrounds and levels of experience. She currently works as an Environmental Scientist and Project Manager at Venn Environmental Ltd and has been working with GeoEnviroPro to develop their Emerging Professionals Initiative and upcoming Environmental Mini-Series.
Beth Power, M.Sc., R.P.Bio., CSAP
Beth is a Registered Professional Biologist in BC with 30+ years of consulting experience – her mentoring style reflects the mentors who lifted her up during ALL those years. She is an Approved Professional (Risk) through the Society of Contaminated Sites Approved Professionals. Beth’s current areas of practice at Azimuth Consulting Group include topics like contaminated water and sediments, risk assessment, mine closure, and risk communication.
Zahra Pirani, M.Eng., P.Eng.
Zahra is an environmental engineer with 14 years of post-graduate experience, the majority of which has been in environmental consulting. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and a Master’s degree related to contaminated soil remediation. Zahra is based out of Kamloops, BC and is the General Manager for Wastech Services. Zahra is also President of the Science Advisory Board for Contaminated Sites in BC.
Steven Boyce, B.A., LEED G.A.
Steve is located in Victoria, BC and is a Principal and the Managing Partner at Active Earth Engineering Ltd. Steve has nearly 20 years of experience in environmental site assessment and remediation, environmental project management, permitting, and team leadership. Steve enjoys mentoring young and emerging professionals, and promoting knowledge-sharing in our industry. Steve values teamwork and collaboration, and prioritizes a positive and rewarding workplace culture.
Guy Patrick, M.Sc., P.Eng.
Mr. Guy Patrick is a contaminant hydrogeologist and environmental engineer with over 40 years of experience across Canada and globally in the assessment and remediation of contaminated sites in soil, sediment and bedrock environments. His focus is on effective use of conceptual site models in site characterization, risk assessment and remedial planning.
