This 3-hour on-line webinar covers the basics of the contaminated site legacy – regulations, investigation and remediation.  This introduction will provide you with an understanding of how contaminated sites are managed or cleaned-up and redeveloped.  The webinar is taught by experts in the field and is tailored to recent graduates, property managers and others who are new to the field of contaminated sites. For those interested in further learning, the webinar is a useful introduction to GeoEnviroPro’s in-depth seven-week webinar series on Fundamentals of Contaminated Sites Science, Engineering and Regulation.   

Part A:  

  1. History and Background 
  2. The importance of the CSM (Conceptual Site Model) 
  3. Contaminated Site Regulations and Process 
  4. Class exercise/example 

BREAK: 20 minutes 

Part B:  

  1. Phased Site Investigations 
  2. Risk Assessment 
  3. Remediation 
  4. Class exercise/example 

Students who complete this course successfully will:  

  • Be familiar with the activities and substances that commonly lead to contamination of soil and groundwater 
  • Be aware of regulations and practices for management and cleanup of contaminated sites  
  • Understand the importance in applying “conceptual site models” for investigation of contaminated sites 
  • Understand the concepts and use of Human Health and Ecological Risk Assessments of contaminants 
  • Be familiar with typical remedial technologies used for cleaning up and/or managing contaminated sites  
  • Understand the range of costs that are typically incurred across the various stages of investigation and remediation 

 

Texts, Materials, or Equipment 

  • Reference materials and PDFs of hand outs will be made available following registration 
  • Participants are expected to have a personal computer with access to Zoom 

An interactive Q&A session at the end of the webinar will allow you to freely ask your questions and discuss answers.

A Certificate of Completion will be issued to all attendees for 3 hours of professional development.
